ahh, monday morning.
there is nutella on my toast
and fresh coffee in my little cup.
life is good :)
the past weekend was wonderful,
the kind of wonderful that makes you never want it to end.
the kind of wonderful that makes you never want it to end.
saturday was a gorgeous day. 70 degrees and sunshine pouring through the windows. ethan and i made breakfast together, which is one of my favorite things. just something about the 2 of us sharing close space in the kitchen, working together to make something we can share, brings contentment i can’t explain. we shared coffee-flavored kisses over fresh blueberry waffle batter and the bacon sizzling on the stove and i felt happy.
we took our little meal back into my room and watched paranormal activity 2. i loved the first one and i was sad to say that i was not impressed with this one. there was also a baby involved which made me really upset and i spent the last half of the movie crying in fear for his safety. (nothing happened to him, but the suspense was enough to kill you.)
after the movie, i showered and put on my little grey dress from urban outfitters and black wedges before we headed to los angeles for the rest of the day. our original plan was to go to the holocaust museum, but of course, the only day during the week that it is closed is saturday! so instead, we went to his dad’s house. i played with their adorable pit bull puppy, ruby, while ethan and his dad barbecued carne asada and we spent a few hours laughing and eating tacos and drinking beer while the sun sank behind us.
once we were full and happy, ethan said he wanted to take me to The Grove, a magical shopping center in the more ritzy area of los angeles.
and boy was it magical! (for all of about 10 minutes.)
when you first walk in, it feels like you’re entering another world. train tracks run down the middle of the street and you can hear a live band playing over the speakers. in the distance, there is a quaint little bridge that sits over a pond with lights glowing beneath the water.

it was sweet and beautiful and then…a little sickening. the rest of the shopping center was filled with every kind of store i’ve ever seen and the streets filled with all kinds of people lugging around their bags full of stuff. it started to feel false and phony and overdone.
i didn’t say anything though; just held onto ethan’s hand even tighter as we wound our way through the crowds. and it got worse. i started noticing some stare downs and dirty looks and i almost laughed when ethan turned to look at me and said, “do i have something on my face?”
“no, babe. i just don’t think we fit in here.”
“no, babe. i just don’t think we fit in here.”
and i had no idea as to why. we were both dressed nicely, nicer than a lot of the people there, even. ethan's reply? “i don’t think we want to fit in here.” i liked that.
we decided to go home sooner rather than later. but first? coffee and dessert :) we held hands over the table in the fancy Italian restaurant, our bread pudding and little white cups between us as we talked about our dreams and plans for the future. it was sweet and romantic and i thanked God for the man sitting across from me, loving me at the same time i was loving him.
our night ended with the drive out of los angeles, the city all lit up on our left hand side. it was beautiful and breath-taking. we laughed as the cars all merged together to get to that place of importance as we made our way back to my house at the early hour of 10pm. :)
on sunday, ethan and i only had a few hours together. we ate our leftover waffles and watched shrek 4 together, which i loved very much. after that, i quizzed ethan for his gun test this upcoming week and we cuddled until his dad picked him up to drive him back to base.
then i had some char time! i took a long shower using my new all-natural shampoo (yes to carrots. it’s amazing.), opened my curtains to see dark clouds looming in and lit some of my delicious-smelling vanilla lemon candles. i lay in bed, breathing in the scents of my clean, wet hair, candles, and the coming rain while i laughed on the phone with my best friend for hours and hours past both our bedtimes.
it was a simple weekend and a perfect one.
it’s amazing to come to work on monday and sit here feeling contentand full.
i couldn’t ask for anything more.
