Day 20 - How important you think education is.
i think education is one of the most over-rated things on the planet.
yes, i said it.
i think more people are unable to do the things they want the most due to the requirement of “having an education.” i’m speaking from personal experience. i still haven’t completed my general education for college after 5 years…why? because i’m dreading taking the math assessment. i just know that i’m going to do horribly and i don’t want to know how many math classes i’m going to have to take to get my AA. and for what? i want to be a counselor and involved in cross-cultural ministry. when in the world am i ever going to need math? if it’s really that bad, i’ll bust out my calculator. or google it. it’s ridiculous. i would just love if i could “get an education” for the things i actually want to do, not so i can be “educated” by the public school system’s standards.
i have also known more people who have graduated from high school and even college – “have an education” – and can’t read, write or spell to save their own life. does that reflect on them as people? absolutely not, but how good is this “education” we’re striving to have?
on the opposite end of the spectrum, i know people who are honest-to-goodness geniuses and have been turned down jobs because they have nothing more than a high school diploma.
i’ll be honest, i looove learning. i’m the person that gets excited to hold my new school books and loves the smell of an old classroom. but that’s my own personal preference. at the end of the day, the level of education someone has does not at all reflect on their intelligence, character, or ability to do something better than anyone else.
but that’s only my opinion. i’m un-educated, so what do i know ;)
