anyways, for documentary purposes, i'm going to let you in on the insanity that has taken place the past week or so.
wednesday:
my friend, ryan, flew in from maryland. he was actually on his way out to fiji for a service trip and had a day-and-a-half layover in los angeles. the perfect time for us to hang out! we had a late lunch/early dinner at the california pizza kitchen, then braved the rush-hour traffic to drive down to newport beach. he wanted to try one of the vanilla chais i'm always raving about :) so i had no choice but to take him to alta's. we then drove down the coast a little bit farther to laguna. it was beautifully peaceful, the quietest i've ever seen it. chais in hand, we walked the quiet little downtown area and browsed the shops before hitting the beach. the sun had set and it was a beautiful night. the moon and stars were especially bright and ryan pointed out some of the constellations. we then rolled up our jeans and walked down the beach to a set of rocks, jetting out into the water. we climbed over the rocks and looked back the laguna. it was beautiful - all the lights of the little houses on the green hills. i couldn't look away for the longest time. i hadn't felt that much peace in a while and i wanted to stay in that moment forever. but...night was pressing on and we had a long day ahead of us. i took him back to his hotel in LA and went home to orange county.
thursday:
i picked ryan up from LA around 9 and we grabbed breakfast at this little place called piggies. the pictures weren't looking too great, but it was the only breakfast place we could find nearby. turns out, pictures are deceiving. the food was delicious! we chowed down on our pancakes and eggs and talked movies over our coffee.
after breakfast, we went to santa monica and walked along the pier. it was the perfect day. i relished being in my shorts and flip-flops in february. i never knew such a thing was possible! we stared out at the ocean quietly for a long time, both enjoying the sunshine and little breezes.
i soon became preoccupied with this awesome bird. seriously - he kept diving down underwater and would disappear for more than 5 minutes before shooting back up to the surface. i don't think ryan was as amused, but i thought he was so awesome! :) oh and we also saw a sting ray near the surface! he was a small one, but a sting ray, nonetheless, and so very cool. i love God's little gifts like that.
after our time on the pier, we took a quick drive down to venice beach and spent hours walking there. apart from laguna, that was my favorite part of his time here. our feet pressed down on the sand in tandem as we walked alongside the water and talked and talked and talked. ryan and i are strangely alike and when i'm talking to him, i feel like we're connecting on the very same wavelength. our conversation when from relationships to our own spiritual strengths and struggles. it was refreshing and i was thankful for his perspective on things.
after leaving venice, we went back to santa monica and got bubba gump's for dinner.
(my delicious blueberry lemonade!)
we were both exhausted, so our conversation was silly and ridiculous and we laughed a lot.
once dinner was over, we made a quick stop at wal-mart and then headed to the airport. it was a quick good-bye, but a sweet one. our time spent together was lovely and i felt extremely blessed to be the last one to see him before he left for his adventure across the world.
friday:
i started feeling my immune system failing. after work, i went straight to bed until i had to pick ethan up from base. we came back to the house and around 1:30am, my brother and our friend, kevin, arrived for the weekend.
saturday:
the 4 of us had breakfast at polly's pies and then it was back out to venice :) we blared sublime the whole way as the sunshine poured in through the window. when we got to the beach, the guys went off to the water while i did what girls do best! spend money :) i got henna on my wrist,
the cutest hemp purse, and a little gold toe ring. when the guys came back from the water, we grabbed some ice cream and made the commute back to orange county.
after a 15-minute respite, we drove out to fullerton to meet kevin's brother for dinner. the place they picked was this restaurant-slash-bar called heroes. they had 100 beers on tap, so we were excited to try some! i asked the waitress for a girly beer and she gave me sugar wheat, which tasted like fruity pebbles. it was delicious and i drank 2 huge cups throughout the course of dinner. i was burping fruity pebbles the rest of the night.
my sweet boyfriend went to the coffee bean to get us coffee while i got ready for the day. 45 minutes or so later, he runs back into the house.
"babe, your car is leaking something bad! you gotta come out and take a look at it!"
i'm thinking, yeah, right, like i would even know what to do with a leaking car!
but i follow him outside to find, not a leak, but my drivers seat filled with valentine's day balloons, red roses and a singing card :) inside the card was a little note that read: "massage envy. wednesday. 6pm. be there fifteen minutes early."
he said he did a bunch of research online to get me the best massage at the best place and he picked some special massage to help people who have back problems (me, haha). i couldn't believe how thoughtful he was.
"and since i won't be in town for valentine's day, i'm also taking you to dinner next weekend," he said, as he smiled down at me and kissed my lips.
what a sweetheart! this was the first valentine's day i've ever had a boyfriend get me anything, so naturally, i was ecstatic and spent the rest of the day smiling for no apparent reason.
after showering him with kisses, i drove out to azusa to pick up my friend, susan, and we came back to orange county to meet the guys at the beach. only 30 minutes later, my brother had to drive ethan back down to base, so we said our good-byes.
susan and i got dinner in downtown huntington, then met kevin and kyle back at the house.
they "suited up"
and the 4 of us headed out to newport for (what else?) vanilla chais! we sat outside, drank the deliciousness and joked around until the evening cold began to wrap itself around us. once we got back to my house, the guys packed up the car and headed back up to sacramento.
monday:
my body was still hating me, but i pushed my way through work. after the day was done, susan and i had a little valentine's date. we went to dinner, then went to see the justin bieber movie! i have to say that i loved every second of it. he's such a doll. i might have no choice but to see it again :)
tuesday (yesterday):
worked. drove susan to the airport. came home. slept for 12 hours.
~~~
so there's where i've disappeared to the past week or so! i hope to be back into the 30-Day Blog Challenge soon enough, i've missed writing and all my blogger friends very much :)
hope you all had a wonderful valentine's day!
