Day 19 - Why you blog.
i started blogging on xanga.com starting back in 2004. it was more of my own personal journal, something to write down allll my thoughts, feelings, etc. i have entries in that blog that are as recent as september of 2010.
i am so thankful i have that blog because it has been awesome to go back and read the things i’ve learned, the ways i’ve changed, and more than anything, how God has been constant through it all.
my mom and my stepdad, doug, were actually the ones who inspired me to start this blog. january of last year, we were watching Hannity on Fox and Ann Coulter was interviewing. she is unbelievably smart, in my opinion, and i was telling my mom and doug how cool it would be to play the kind of role that she does. my mom told me, “you’re smart enough to do that! you should start putting yourself out there and who knows what could happen.” [those weren’t her exact words, but that’s the shortened version :)] doug piped up and told me i should start a blog and told me about blogger.com. i created an account immediately and began dabbling with ideas about how i wanted to present myself. my original goal for this blog was to publish my thoughts about the political community, as well as the religious community.
i worked on it for about a month, but i wasn't happy with any of the results. in my mind, i was coming off too intensely and i wanted people to be able to relate to me. i needed to walk away for awhile and come back with a fresh pair of eyes.
then, this past september, my friend, lauren, moved to london for the semester. she had created a blog to share her adventures abroad and i began following her. i really enjoyed her writing style and loved that she didn’t take herself too seriously. in reading her posts, i decided i needed to let go and just write. if God had something to say through me, i could be sure it would be with little effort, as it always has been in the past.
so here i am! :) being able to blog these past few months has been a blessing in my life. it has been a way to stay in touch with the people i love who are not nearby and let them into my world a little bit. writing is also one of the few things that comes naturally to me. putting my thoughts down on paper is the one way i really feel my creativity coming alive and my soul being freed just a little bit more :)
words are my favorite thing and i am thankful for the privilege of being able to use them.
