Day 24 - Your favorite movie and what it's about.

i was torn between a couple movies  for this post, but i have to go with eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

it is one of my favorites because of the strange, thought-provoking love story it carries.

the movie begins with joel (jim carrey) showing up to see his girlfriend, clementine (kate winslet), at the bookstore where she works.  it is valentine's day and in his hand, he holds a necklace he bought for her.  but as he stands in front of her, clementine seems to have no idea who he is.

and she doesn't.  joel soon finds out that she had a procedure done to have him erased from her memory.

the movie continues on with joel deciding to undergo the same exact procedure and forever remove clementine from his mind.

the memories play as they are taken from him and we see every good, bad, and dysfunctional moment between the two of them.
but in the midst of it, joel realizes that the memories he has of clementine are the most important thing to him and he fights to keep whatever he can before he wakes up with no part of her left.

clementine:  this is it, joel.  it's going to be gone soon.

joel:  i know.

clementine:  what do we do?

joelenjoy it.

it is a strange, hauntingly beautiful love story.  i love that it makes me think...about love.  about relationships.  about people.

i know there have been moments when i have wondered what my life would look like if i could only erase certain parts, certain people, certain scars.  but then i wonder who i would be today?

all those horrible, heart-wrenching moments and days and months in my life have all shaped me.  erasing people and scars and moments would be erasing who i am.

and that helps me to thank God for not being able to forget
and knowing that He is Healer,
and in the end,
i will be able to smile upon the places i came from.

and that is pretty amazing :)
